Kids fine, parents clueless in net-generation study

Worried about the damage the Internet may be doing to young minds? Today’s web-savvy youth stand accused of being unread, bad at communicating, socially inept, shameless, dishonest, work-shy, narcissistic and indifferent to the needs of others, says author Don Tapscott.  But here’s an opposing view that will relieve any guilt or second thoughts we adults might have about those digital holiday gifts.

In his new book, Grown Up Digital Tapscott bases his contrary conclusions on his new $4.5m study of nearly 8,000 people in 12 countries born between 1978 and 1994. “It’s the baby-boomer parents who are clueless,” according to Tapscott, “not the amazing net generation of empowered young people who are beginning to transform every institution of modern life.” Read the full book review in The Economist.com.
